Weghorst in Burnley for talks - Relegation battle as price to fulfil England dream?
This article first appeared on Transfermarkt on January 27 and was updated with additional information on January 28.
Will Wout Weghorst be part of a big-name double transfer for relegation-threatened Burnley? The Premier League bottom team is said to be on the verge of signing Dinamo Zagreb winger Mislav Orsic and has also already made an offer for the Wolfsburg striker, The Athletic reports.
Orsic has reportedly already said goodbye to his teammates in Croatia, although Dinamo and the Lancashire club have not yet agreed on a transfer fee. The international fits the needs of the second-worst attack in the English top flight with only 16 goals in the current season, as he can play on both attacking flanks as well as in the centre of the attack. At Dinamo, he has mostly featured on the left wing.
Weghorst, on the other hand, is said to be attracted by the possibility to become the number one centre-forward in a Premier League team. Regardless of his current poor form in front of goal at the Wolves, the usually efficient VfL striker is supposed to replace Chris Wood at Burnley. The latter had moved to Newcastle for a transfer fee of €30 million, which was surprising even for the New Zealander himself. Burnley, on the other hand, will probably have to spend considerably less on Weghorst, whose contract expires in 2023.
Update January 28: According to information acquired by Transfermarkt, the deal is becoming more concrete. The attacker is currently in Burnley for negotiations. However, a final decision has not yet been made.
