Manchester United were front and centre of the new Transfermarkt Premier League market values update, due to the fact that despite their failures on the pitch, the Old Trafford club undoubtedly remain one of the biggest clubs in English and European football. And they still wield a cheque book to make that point perfectly clear in each and every transfer window. Under new head coach Erik Ten Hag, the Red Devils spent no less than €240 million on new signings, with a turnover of 27 players either leaving or joining the club. Indeed, this is a period of great transition at Man Utd and that was clear for all to see in the latest market value updates to the club’s numerous stars.

New Premier League market values

The new guard - Antony, Martínez and Casemiro rise

The most notable upgrade in market value came to new signing Antony, who joined the club from Ajax for €95m. Although the winger’s market value didn’t reach such heights, it did still see a huge 114.3% rise from €35m to €75m. And that figure could continue to skyrocket if the Brazilian can continue his good form for Ten Hag’s team this season. Such rises were also evident in Man Utd’s other signings. Casemiro saw his market value increase by 25% €50m, Christian Eriksen’s increased by 10% to €22m, Tyrell Malacia’s went up by 29.4% to €22m and Lisandro Martínez’s market value rose by an impressive 56.3% to €50m.

Similarly, established players at the club that have since found a new purpose under Ten Hag also saw their values increase. First-choice right back Diogo Dalot saw a 40% increase in his market value to €30m, while young forward Anthony Elanga saw a 25% increase in his market value to €25m, following impressive starts to the new season under the new Man Utd boss.

Diminishing returns - Ronaldo, Maguire & Co. fall

However, it wasn’t all good for Man Utd in the most recent update. While a number of new signings and squad players have thrived under Ten Hag, some of the club’s biggest names have struggled and as a result the club has seen a huge drop off in some of its most valuable players.

Cristiano Ronaldo market value

The biggest victims of the most recent update were Raphaël Varane and Anthony Martial, who both saw their values drop by €12m to €48m and €16m respectively. However, perhaps the stand-out name in this list of underachievers was none other than Cristiano Ronaldo, whose market value has dropped from €30m down to €20m - which now means the player’s market value has dropped by a massive 80% since he left Real Madrid in 2018.

Similarly, Harry Maguire (down €8m), Luke Shaw (down €8m), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (down €7m) and Donny van de Beek (down €5m) all saw notable decreases in their market value, representing the club’s continued struggles on the pitch and these key players being nowhere near the rare moments of good form that have come from Ten Hag’s new-look side in recent weeks.
