Rapid Vienna could lose 2nd forward to MLS: Fountas has mega offer from DC United

Ercan Kara's transfer from Rapid Vienna to Orlando City is in the final stages and only needs to be announced. The Austrian Bundesliga side, however, could also lose a second player to Major League Soccer. On Monday, the Washington Post reported that Kara's teammate and congenial attacking partner Taxiarchis Fountas has agreed on a three-year deal with D.C. United. 

The 26-year-old Greek forward is expected to become a Designated Player (DP). The Post reported that Fountas will sign a mega offer that will earn him $7 million overall over the next three years. What remains to be seen is when Fountas will join the MLS club. His contract with the Hütteldorfern will expire this summer. Austria's Krone reported that Fountas could move to MLS immediately. That would allow Rapid to earn a small transfer fee. 

That report, however, has been somewhat shut down by his agent Max Hagmayr on Monday. "Taxi could easily stay this spring with Rapid," his agent said to the Kurier. Rapid Vienna has turned down a €200,000 offer for the forward just before Christmas.
