Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund confirmed on Monday that the club had come to an agreement with young winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens to extend the player’s contract. Following on from an impressive breakthrough campaign last season, the 19-year-old talent has now committed himself to the German club until the summer of 2028.

“Jamie is a prospect for the future,” said Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl on the club website. “We are convinced that his development is far from complete, and we are pleased that Jamie has decided at this early stage to commit his long-term future to BVB, despite great interest from several other big European clubs.” The player added: “BVB were always my first point of contact because they have shown over many years that they give young players playing time at the highest level, if they perform convincingly. I wish to take the next step together with my club and want to help my team on the pitch with goals, assists and hard work.”

How good is Jamie Bynoe-Gittens?

Indeed, while Bynoe-Gittens’ career in the Bundesliga may only just be getting started, the former Manchester City youth prospect has already made a name for himself at the Westfalenstadion and will surely be featuring more and more for Edin Terzic’s side in the months and years to come. To date, the player has already featured in over 25 senior games for the club, having broken into the first team last season where he bagged three goals and one assist in 20 games across all competitions.

Of course, at such a young game Bynoe-Gittens is still primarily used as an impact sub by Terzic. But that could be about to change. Technically, the 19-year-old prospect is behind Donyell MalenKarim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt in the pecking order for wide positions, but the Dortmund head coach has shown no concerns in playing Bynoe-Gittens when any of the aforementioned trio are out of form. As such, the England talent could quickly find himself taking on a starting role at Dortmund if his more established team mates don’t improve their form. Which, undoubtedly, is one of the main reasons why the club looked to extend his contract now rather than at the end of a season which could see the winger step into the limelight for all of European football to see.

How much is Jamie Bynoe-Gittens worth?

As things currently stand, the Dortmund winger has a market value of €14 million. However, that is likely to change in the forthcoming Bundesliga market value update later this month. At just 19 years of age, on the cusp of a starting role for one of Germany’s biggest clubs and now a new, long-term contract behind him, there’s little doubt that Bynoe-Gittens’ market value should soon begin to rise considerably unless the player is held back by injury or poor form. At which point the question then becomes how much are Europe’s biggest clubs willing to pay for what could be an exceptionally talented young professional.
